The details
- 8.5 – width in inches between the flanges (215.9 mm). The wheel is about one inch wider overall.
- J – flange profile, almost always J on passenger cars.
- 19 – bead seat diameter in inches.
- H2 – double hump: ridges that keep the tyre on the bead seat when losing pressure.
- ET45 – offset in mm (see the dedicated guide).
Which rim width fits the tyre?
Every tyre size is approved for a certain range of rim widths only. Too narrow (stretched) or too wide (ballooned) is not permitted and can prevent approval. The table shows the guideline values the calculator uses:

|---|---|---|
| 145 mm | 4–5 J | 4–5 J |
| 155 mm | 4–5.5 J | 4.5–5.5 J |
| 165 mm | 4.5–6 J | 5–6 J |
| 175 mm | 5–6 J | 5–6.5 J |
| 185 mm | 5–6.5 J | 5.5–7 J |
| 195 mm | 5.5–7 J | 5.5–7.5 J |
| 205 mm | 5.5–7.5 J | 6–7.5 J |

Wider wheel – what changes?
One inch more width is 25.4 mm. With the same offset the wheel grows by half on each side: 12.7 mm towards the strut and 12.7 mm towards the fender. The offset lets you shift this distribution.
